This article summarizes the four intrepretations of the meaning “day” in the biblical creation account. This information is taken from the "Report of the Creation Study Committee" posted on PCANEWS.COM, the Web Magazine of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), dated July 6, 2000. The original report, presented to the 28th General Assembly of the PCA, results from the committee’s two-year study of Genesis 1-3 and of the meaning of “day” in that creation account.

This 7-week course surveys the methods and results of archaeology as applied to sites and topics of biblical significance. It also offers a consideration of the interpretive and apologetic uses of archaeology. This abbreviated version of the course does not contain the unit on New Testament archaeology, as well as other supplemental content included in the 15-week version.

Arguably the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job has a surprising amount to say about some of the newest scientific discoveries and controversies. Far from a book that is just about suffering, Job is filled with rich insight into both ancient and modern questions about • the formation of the world • the difference between animals and humans • cosmology • dinosaurs and the fossil record • how to care for creation
With careful consideration and exegesis, internationally known astrophysicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross adds yet another compelling argument to the case for the veracity of the biblical commentary on the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shows that the Bible is an accurate predictor of scientific discoveries and a trustworthy source of scientific information, and that both the book of Scripture and the book of nature are consistent both internally and externally.
“The first instructions God gave to humanity, specifically to Adam and Eve, concerned their responsibility to manage Earth’s resources for the benefit of all life (see Gen. 1:28-31). In many respects, the book of Job serves as an instruction manual teaching humans exactly how to manage the planet’s resources for the advantage of all. Job provides this instruction by asking specific questions.”—Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job by Hugh Ross, page 20
Was Einstein wrong? Researchers from Switzerland’s CERN laboratory report that neutrinos may exceed the speed of light by 60 nanoseconds over 730 kilometers. Is it true that the discovery calls into question one of the most trusted physical laws (often cited by RTB scholars as biblically warranted––Jeremiah 33: 25)? Does time travel now become possible? Access valuable apologetic materials that show how God created the universe with constant physical laws.
Hugh Ross addressed that question on a recent Science News Flash podcast. Researchers surveyed the discussions of 192 people who posted on an autism website and determined that people with “mild” forms of autism are more likely to be atheists. A “preference for logical beliefs”––a common autistic spectrum behavior––seems to be one reason why some autistic individuals prefer atheism, according to the University of Boston study .
Earlier this week, RTB philosopher/theologian Kenneth Samples invited me, Sandra, and other RTB staffers to participate in a recording of his podcast, Straight Thinking. Thediscussion focused on Harry Potter and Christians’ response to this spectacularly popular fantasy franchise. The podcast won’t air for another two months or so, but I love the subject of fantasy literature and film so much I can’t resist writing about it here on Take Two.
On a regular basis, Hugh Ross teaches the Paradox Sunday School class at Sierra Madre Congregational Church in Sierra Madre, Ca. (Because of Hugh’s traveling schedule there are occasional substitute teachers in this class.)
Where did Cain’s wife come from? is one of the most frequently asked questions at Reasons To Believe outreach events. This web article, written by Hugh Ross, proposes a solution to the “population problem” in Genesis chapter 4.
During this television interview on It’s a New Day, Dr. Fazale Rana discusses the startling molecular features inside the cell that compel only one possible conclusion: a supernatural agent must be responsible for life! Discover fascinating scientific evidence that evokes awe and amazement at God’s creative majesty.
I wrote this article just a few days after 9/11 (though it had to wait until the first quarter of 2002 to be published in the RTB magazine Facts for Faith). As this month marks the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, I thought it would be a good time to revisit this piece.
This intensive 7-week online course surveys the biblical material related to creation, including the historic doctrine of general and special revelation. Students are also exposed to a variety of interpretations to Genesis 1, including the biblical basis for the old-earth creation model and encouraged to form an integrated, coherent interpretation of the data. The second half of the course explores theological and scientific questions concerning the age of the earth (such as radiometric dating techniques and global flood theory).
This registration will give one student access to the online materials (lectures, lecture notes and discussion boards) for the “Creation and the Bible” course. The additional purchase of course textbooks is required.
Jeff Zweerink (PhD, Iowa State University) is an astrophysicist, specializing in high energy gamma-ray astrophysics. Coauthor of more than 30 journal articles, Jeff serves as a research scholar at RTB and is a member of the research faculty at UCLA. When discussing the integration of faith and science, Jeff speaks on topics related to his education and professional background.
Hugh Ross writes writes about the issues surrounding the big bang. Main topics covered in this article include: is the “big bang” a problematic term?, multiplicity of models, an overview and summary list of big bang creation evidences, and the apologetics impact of big bang cosmology. Also included are tables with the latest measurements of the cosmic expansion rate and the latest measurements of the population II stars.
